Are you...the One?

I noticed most folks here calls what we usually call single craft or OC1s "the One" or "the one man". I don't think it is a sexist term, but just out of simplicity. I mean, saying OC1 is too vague, and saying "single person outrigger canoe" (the full term according to wiki
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outrigger_canoe) is a mouthful.

How do you call your special One? ;)

Anyhoo, today is the first day of our clinic. We were asked where we were from, our experiences, and what we want to achieve here.

We also get to play with some brand sparkling new canoes. We had a choice of the Storm, Scorpius XM, Scorpius XS, the new Hurricane, and the Helium. Since its my first day I decided to go with the Helium, because I have read many good things about this little canoe, and also it has both adjustable rudder pedals and seat......

There were only five of us, so we will definitely get some quality one on one attention from some of the greatest paddlers of our time.

Our first coach was Ryan Pogue - the guy who designed the OC clinic. He also showed us how to fly the ama in a fun and effortless way. Although we were all good students, we were unable to replicate at this point in time...

Later in the afternoon we were coached by the great John Puakea. He video all of us on the water and explain all our flaws and recommended remedies. He also designs canoes and paddles too! Amazing guy!! That's his design company on the back of his shirt.

Amazing day...and now its time for some dinner....

  1. I like the name. To me it feels more like "two in one" when you paddle. Like a bond between the canoe and you. That creates synergy. How powerful! I shall put that in mind when I am playing tennis too. Quite a good idea. Racquet and me - 2 in 1. :)
